Airway management with a rigid external distractor in place

چکیده
External distraction using a rigid external distractor (RED) frame (RED frame II, KLS-Martin, Jacksonville, USA) is frequently used for maxillary distraction and reconstruction.[1-3] Airway management with the RED frame could be a greater risk of failed intubation/extubation. It could significantly interfere with ventilation with a face mask or intubation by direct laryngoscopy. However, anaesthetic management of patients with the RED frame has not been reported sufficiently.[2-4] We describe airway management using gum elastic bougie (GEB) for extubation and a small rounded facemask for induction of anaesthesia in two patients.

Use of rigid external distraction device in treatment of complex maxillofacial fractures.
Collapse of maxillofacial skeletal structures after trauma results in inadequate anteroposterior projection and increase in facial width with deformed facial aesthetics and various functional problems. After successful use of rigid external distractor for treatment of congenital facial hypoplasia, they have been used for treating more complex craniofacial anomalies. Six patients with posttrauma...

INTRODUCTION Comprehensive airway evaluation is a critical component in the diagnosis of common pediatric conditions including laryngomalacia, vocal fold immobility, subglottic or tracheal stenosis, tracheomalacia, and recurrent respiratory papillomatosis. It is imperative in these cases that complete airway assessment from the supraglottis to bronchi be safely performed. This can be particular...
متن کاملEvaluation of cephalometric points in midface bone lengthening with the use of a rigid external device in syndromic craniosynostosis patients.
UNLABELLED Distraction osteogenesis has been extensively used to correct severe midface hypoplasia in syndromic craniosynostosis patients. However few studies have reported midface distraction outcomes through cephalometric evaluation. AIM The purpose of the present study was to evaluate outcomes with midface distraction rigid external device (RED) in patients with syndromic craniosynostosis,...

Purpose: To evaluate the skeletal changes associated with maxillary advancement using the external rigid distractor in cleft lip and palate patients after distraction and to assess the stability of these changes. Patients and Methods: Eight cleft lip and palate patients with maxillary hypoplasia underwent maxillary distraction osteogenesis using external rigid devise. Lateral cephalometric reco...

This study aimed to assess the effects of bone-borne and tooth-borne surgically assisted rapid maxillary expansion on the volumes of the nose and nasal airway 2 yr after maxillary expansion. This prospective cohort study included 32 patients with transverse maxillary hypoplasia. Expansion was performed with a tooth-borne distractor (Hyrax) in 19 patients and with a bone-borne distractor [transp...
